Possessed (more gamer blab)

Ok so last time Guppy threw a get together we eventually popped in a PS3 game called Demons Souls. its your semi-standard Fantasy Hack & Slash rpg, super customizable characters, and a pretty damn big world to fuck stuff up in. The main thing everyone says about this game is that its HARD AS HELL. And yanno what, it is!!

Its an Atlas game and its also its hard as hell to find especially when i decide to go get it.

So after hitting every electronics and games store in a 60 mile radius i say fuck em and hit up Amazon, i was really tryin to get that game under BreastBuys "buy 2 get the 3rd free." deal but those numbnuts just happen to be really lazy with restocking their shit at the same time, so that didnt happen.

Anyway i finally started playing it yesterday and it is ALMOST as hard as that one DS game i was playing for 3 months straight. You die, you start the stage over, where as in Shrien the Wanderer you start the WHOLE GAME over XD. In DemonSouls you atleast get to keep and build up your items as you repeat the same stage over and over.

I was looking thru the gamefaq on this game and i think the intro raised a good observation, its not so much that DemonSouls is a hard game, its that games today are WAY too easy. Infinite lives, Regenerating your health by just standing around, save anywhere. Maaaaaan when i was a kid playin in the arcades you had to PAY for that victory. XD

This game is seriously for people who like a challenge, as opposed to "Push a button, win a cookie." :U

So its windy as hell today and im on my last delivery at a hospital loading dock. I see a lone fellow with a garbage can raking up leaves as the THOUSANDS of maple trees are just dumping all over the dock, driveway, parking lot and beyond. We make eye contact briefly so i feel compelled to say "HAY Its a tad nippy out today, eh?" To which he responds "Fuuuuck yooooooou."

Not in the especially angry way, in teh "this is the desired response" kinda way XD

Yanno, i give points to a person when they're working the register and get a chuckle out of something i say, but its mega points when someone just retorts so appropriately with out hesitation XD

Yeah!! Its Raining!! Bout fuggin time! And sure enough since its been raining pretty hefty all day, all the lazyness has caught up with folks. I went into several places of business today and pretty much all of em had mop buckets out under steady drips from the ceiling.

And as usual Californians are totally unfamiliar with the concept of water from the sky occupying space on the roads and having an adverse effect on their driving :U

I saw 3 stuck-in-the-muds (2 of which were SUVs)
Saw 2 wrecks, one of which the car seemed to have totally misplaced its tires.
One of the other drivers saw a car totally upside down, c'mon really? How the hell do you make a car go upside down in the year 2009??

Not including driving down a hill in the snow and swerving to avoid hitting the convoy in front of you >_>

With that i MIGHT be game to do an idea i had for an Xmas Group commission thing, but times are tight atm, people arent as spendy with commissions lately, especially around the holidays....*ponders*

Ok so out of several major movies this year 2 out of 3 have been less than i expected.

"9" Was a neat movie but not nearly as spectacular as the trailers would have you believe :U
Zombie Land was a hilarious comedy but i was disappointed with the minimal zombie mayhem.

District 9 Was more AWESOME than i had ever expected, easily the best movie of the year so far.

NOW....this weekend comes Where The Wild Things Are. Most people were spouting venom long before the first trailer. i was atleast intrigued by the idea, then when i saw the teaser trailer i lost my mind! Everything i've seen about this movie looks like it might be the most beautiful motion picture in ages. It had the original story creator behind it and he was totally happy with the results, the SFX look like a nice blend of CG and Animatronics. And most of all it looks dark, i'd say like Coraline dark.

but as we've seen, hollywood has a new found talent for watering down what could otherwise be a great product. So now i head into this next flick with fear and anticipation :U

heres hoping.

The Future of Videoing?

So yeah i have a PS3 but i mostly just use it for watchin movies, its in the front room for everyones use actually. Once in a while i end up buying a movie i already own on DVD, on BlueRay, which is a financial hazard i'd been trying to avoid, i already have an awesome DVD collection, i dont wanna end up restocking it in a different format. Tho i am of the opinion that 2D animations and Comedies dont need to be in Hi-Def anyway. Mostly i've just been buying stuff i didnt already own like Gladiator and Truman show. Tho i did re-buy Robocop cos the Booray version is completely uncut compared to the DVD version. :O

Lately i've been hearing rumblings that theirs a video disc on the horizon that holds 2x more data than a Booray. SO wtf is gonna happen? Will it be compatable with already existing booray players, or will it render the few vids, and any others i buy, useless in the very near future?

I've been having some really consistent dreams lately. Several dreams i can remember of the past few nights have all be chase dreams. I know the first one was based around Shadow Complex (a game i've been playing on XBLA) your standard infiltration of a secret organization determined to rule the world. Climbing thru vents and dodging survailance. At one point i make it to the surface and im running along a pier type area and ziging and zaging in and out of grocery stores and stuff, knocking things and people down to obstruct the path of my persuers. Its really vexing cos running in my dreams is always like running in waist high water.

Last night my chase dream was more like that one part in District 9 where the guy helps the alien bust in and out of the secret facility. That just makes me wanna get that movie as soon as possible @_@ i neeeeed to watch it again.

Fun Filled Weekend

So i saw Zombie Land on saturday with BBD, Basil, Stitch, Celestial, Syrus, BW and Special Guest Appearance by The Raymond Knight!

The movie was a mixed bag. The funny parts were REALLY REALLY funny, i honestly (besides The Hangover) havent laughed that hard at the theaters in forever. The downside of the movie was zombie parts were disappointingly minimal. When they were doin the zombie mayhem it was certainly pretty wacky, but theirs a long gap in the middle where nothings happening, not unlike 28 days later. Overall its worth a rent, ill likely buy it when it comes out but it doesnt make my top list of zombie films.

Sunday we went to the Disney Family museum, that just opened up in SF, with the same group. I was planning on flaking out on that but they'd already bought my ticket. Turns out i misinterpreted the Family part, not as in Family oriented but actually factually about the life of Walt Disney and his family. That whole experience gave me a new found respect for the man behind the mouse. It also makes you appreciate the results of life experience and toil vs being born into a massive powerhouse.

After that we hit up Mels diner in SF for lunch, then went to the Golden Gate Bridge cos Celestial and Basil have never actually been to it. We hung out for a few hours. walked about halfway out on the bridge, watched surfers screwing around near the rocky shores beneath the bridge, then pretty much went home, had to battle horrid street traffic and vagrants but eventually got home in one piece :3

goooood times.

Theeeeeeeeee END...but for how long?

WOOOOOOOOO i finally did it!! I beat the last dungeon on Shiren the Wanderer! I grossly misrepresented that game. It is definitely challenging as fuck but holy shit was that one of the most fun hack & slashers ive ever played.

327 hours!! Thats how much time i put in to that game XD

When i first started i'd have put Shiren the Wanderer on the list of hardest games EVAR. BUT that list is still topped by

Battletoads
Ghosts n Goblins
and Digimon World 4

And all those games suffer from the same major issue, BLINDING difficulty and little to NO reward for your efforts in the long run. And yet still managed to be fun to play anyway.

Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the wanderer was definitely hard, but gadamn did i have fun playing it. More than a few friends brow beat me about how much time i'd been dedicating to it, but i just dont understand how it can be such a big deal to own a game that was so addictive and satisfying. I got more than my moneys worth out of it, personally i hate games that you can beat in 6 hours so i gotta say 327 hours is definitely money well spent (i only spent like $9 on this game) XD

All that grinding, item managment and hunting for rare drops made it EASY to steamroll through the 60 floors of the final dungeon, bitch slap the final boss and ROLL CREDITS! :O

It makes me think about a discussion i used to have with WB, our two different experiences beating Final Fantasy 7. He was at lvl 45 or so and fought Sephiroth over and over untill he beat him. By the time i'd gotten to Sephiroth i'd leveled up so much and duplicated the Knights of the Round materia as well as a few of the repeater types. So after a few attempts at the dungeon i get to ol noodle hair and just let those bad boys loose on him, hit repeat, and went to go get a sammich XD

/nerd out

Smack-o-la

OH yeah! On the drive home i run into a snag of traffic right as i get on the freeway. Thats really damn unusual for south bound 880 at 2pm. So you can guarantee its an accident. As im driving along, i hear that eerily familiar sound of one car colliding with another, sure enough the guy in the lane next to me smacked into the van right in front of him. As my lane keeps moving the dumbass in the van STOPS HIS CAR in the middle of the damn freeway, he was in the 3rd lane for fuck sake. You do NOT get out of your car to check for damage and exchange info in the THIRD LANE of the freeway.

Holy crap was i glad i had gotten on the road when i did or the traffic woulda been 2x as bad cos sure enough i get to where the collision is and ITS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY! So to sum it up two poor numbnuts' have their day (and many more days of dealing with insurance) RUINED, cos of retards oogling an accident on THE OTHER SIDE of the freeway.

It makes a person lean more and more towards Nihilism every day :U

2% discount!? Helllll yeah!!

Yanno i used to really dig on places that would get friendly with you when youre a regular customer. Now im finding i enjoy that to a point. i always hit the same gas station in the morning for coffee when i start my route, as such i've gotten pretty friendly with the manager there, we chit chat here and there (you wouldnt believe how often idiots drive off with the pump sticking out of their tanks btw). Even a few of the other cashiers are really cool, but everyone keeps it to a minimum cos theres lots of customers coming and going so i make my stays pretty short as well.

One thing i do is tell em to keep the penny when i get my coffee cos its 99¢. But some n00b they got over the summer has found it entertaining to make a game of getting me that penny as fast as possible. He'll hand me the penny before i even have my dollar out, and just be goofy about the whole thing. i Humored him for a while but ugh i am not a morning person, i dont like to be messed with at 6am...especially before i've had my coffee.

I've started to hit up Starbucks more and more lately. Nothing like a fresh brewed custom Venti 6 pump Tripple shot White Mocha.... :9

Also theres a Longs Drugs (now co-opted by CVS) that i used to hit pretty regularly when i needed random little things like tissue or gum super early in the AM. The old guy that runs that place has also gotten fairly familiar. But now that they're CVS hes really been pushing the stupid discount card, i dont think it even actually gives discounts like Safeway or Luckys, as far as im concerned it just puts you on a list of statistics which monitor what junk i by.

Several times i've refused and several times hes given me the commercial, alot of the time im really in a hurry cos im on the clock and if i linger anywhere too long questions get asked. I finally caved in and just filled out the goddamn thing, fortunately i put some "inaccurate" info, but looking back i shoulda bitched him out and took my business to the Wallgreens on the other side of the freeway.

Im finding more and more places i shop at are tryin to cram cards down my throat. Go to BreastBuy "Wanna BestBuy card" "no" "but you get blablalbalblabalblablablabla" "noooooooooo".
Go to Frys "Wanna Frys Card?" "no" "but you get balblablablabalbla"....

I swear if i have to say 'no' more than once to another register monkey its gonna be a spectacle >:b

2s Day Already!?

Wow what a whirlwind weekend!

On Friday Firon hosted a party at his new digs in Walnut Creek, i met up with Syrus and Celestial there. We had fun, i met a ton of new folks i'd never met before or only briefly at previous cons. Games, drinks and a lengthy late night drive down 680 at the end.

Saturday: Had the gang over (too long to list, you know who you are ;3) we mostly just hung out and watched movies and did a Frys run. Fun fun fun.

Sunday: Started off with a bit of a mild hangover, then breakfast at The ORIGINAL house of Pancakes :9 Felt considerably better after that. Then we went to see District 9!!! HOLY BALLS what a great movie!! It was everything i'd hoped it would be and more!

Monday: I had my first forced unpaid day off from work so i took DJ to Santa Cruz cos he apparently hadnt been there in 15 years and was unaware the arcade defies Space & Time by actually having a pretty big selection of old school games. More so i just looooove going to Santa Cruz in general especially the board walk. We got on some rides, didnt touch the beach tho, and played a fuck ton of games. I got to kick ass at Crazy Taxi 3! Never thought i'd actually be able to incorporate that jump button but hooboy :O

What would it be like if Time DIDNT fly while you were having fun? If slow boring events WHIZZED by in the blink of an eye while a great day at teh amusement park really felt like they lasted forever :U

New NIMH?

Everyone is complaining about the new Secret of NIMH movie coming down the pipe, but honestly i dont care if they remake it. If its garbage, its not gonna retroactively make my DVD of the original animation un-awesome. More so the original Don Bluth animation was WAY OFF from the book anyway. XD

I donno, this is one im not gonna get my undies in a bunch about.

Also Seth & Sammy made a guest appearance briefly :3

And friday was nekofelin's birthday, got to eat some fancy pasta out in the city, then follow it up with some of that I-talian icecream. Thats about all i can recall.
Shiren The Wanderer (DS)

That game sat on the shelf for at least a month. i dont even know why i ever really bought it, the stuff on the back sure made the game seem like crap. It was just a random impulse buy but WOW did i really get sucked in, its all a matter of changing out of the usual, grind, save often, get the bestest most final weaponest weapon+epic final move. Leveling up is really back burner cos youre guaranteed to die ALOT before you beat this game. It makes attempting to grind a real risk cos you could lose so much by just one damn mistake, including hidden traps and surprisingly clever monsters at any time.

I think the whole you lose everything when you die, element takes it back to the OLD SCHOOL games like in the NES days where there were no saves of any kind, you play it, you die, you figure it out, you play some more, one day you eventually beat it. Blaster Master is the best example of that XD

One of the really attractive features of Shiren the Wanderer was how intuitive it was with all the different kinds of items, also atleast you got to store your goodies if you had the foresight and were lucky enough to make it to the next town before pressing on and inevitably getting masticated by some crazy ass beastie.

Whats really funny was after all that, i was constantly adding powers and levels to this one master sword about halfway through the game. I'd take it out of storage dump some stat up items on it, take it to the smithy, combine it with other weapons. And then i never got to use it in the end XD

They always go in 3s

Wow Michael Jackson just died, thats goddamn outta left field. Its a trip cos i just watched Captain EO for the first time at BBDs place last weekend. He was definitely a freak in his later years but that does not discount how amazingly talented he was in his prime. Hes on that short list of Celebs that i find it significant to acknowledge their death.

thats Ed McMahon, Ferrah Fawcet, and now MJ. Technically David Karadine too but i dont think it counts when they go out in a sex act :U
