Ok amongst other things my Sansa Mp3 player his circling the drain. Of course it'd be RIGHT after i let the 2 year warranty expire. I've really enjoyed this music player for the last 4 years (i renewed it before the last warranty expired)but i let it slip by and now im thinking its time to make the jump to a totally different kinda MP3 player.

At first i avoided iPods cos i was already using small time mp3 players before they became the thing to have. Then i avoided em cos they were trendy and in-your-face, and i was fine with what i had. All my mp3 players have been EXACTLY what i want out of a music maker. Simple interface, user friendly, plug and go. Hell ill even admit im a bit of a luddite. But more than one person offered me free ipods just so i could see what the big deal was.

If Invasion of the Body Snatchers has taught me anything, never accept free pods from people. It ALWAYS leads to mind control and lots of unnecessary running.

Anyway one of my best buds [info]kitelessd finally pushed one in my hands and said atleast give it a try. So i did, first off i did NOT wanna have to deal with iTunes. I always felt that iTunes was an unnecessary part to the process of putting music on an iPod. And i was right, what a pain in the ass, more so it wanted to force me to use entire folders of pictures to put em on it. Long story short this thing pretty much demands i change my entire organizational system just to make it even halfway useful.

I can now officially say i hate the iPod from experience. I cant believe that fuckin thing is the phenomenon it is.

I've had 5 MP3 players before the iPod mini. And all of em were get up and go! Just plug em in and BAM! Folders go here, music goes there, feel free to add some pics, yer good to go. So after 2 weeks of fooling around with that thing i graciously returned my gift and held on to my Sansa, tho kiteless did give me an 8 gig version of my sansa which does great, but has alot of bugs in it, like it keeps wiping its own memory for no reason X3

SO one day it occured to me....HEY! Sony pretty much INVENTED portable music. Lets we forget the walkman *salutes!* So i hit up BreastBuy this week and nabbed a Sony Walkman Mp3 player on a whim. and HOLY FUCK this thing kicks ass! Its even BETTER than a Sansa! Cos now i can actually just put everything in there by FOLDER and it acknowledges everything based on folders if i choose to. I can arrange the folders by all kinds of wacky conditions, and shuffle the music accordingly. I am happily carrying around music and pics once again!

Now i just need to get a fuckin radio for my car again. What a pain in the ass thats been.

NAE! It doesnt allow you to view content by folders :U

Also you can not arrange music by track number unless its a bunch of stuff you JUST put the music in immediately before hand, ateast thats what always happend with my ScanDisk

D:

The new update fixes the view content by folders thingamabob. :3

If you sync the player to like Windows Media Player, it'll arrange by track number. :D

I've tried that, it totally doesnt let you arrange by track number, i went thru all the options and it never gives me that one, even when i hit "show by track number" :U

D: Ok so...it can't do that. But it'll go by track automatically if you go by album. o.o You do have to sync it and make sure the track number is correct before ya transfer over.

The iPod is easy BECAUSE of iTunes. It facilitates everything ... really is plug in and go if you want it to. I honestly don't care to organise folders and shit and drag and drop music haphazardly. I like order and the more automated something is (as long as I control the output as much as possible) I'm happy.

I know not everyone likes the iPod but it amuses me when people say how horrible the iPod is and they try to go around using the iTunes software.

And actually Sony did NOT invent portable music. Some European guy did and Sony actually had to pay that guy because that guy has a patent.

Yea yea i figure there was SOMETHING before the Sony walk man but you go back in time and thats what was on the streets big time, growin up.

As for iTunes like i said, for it to be useful to me i'd have to change my already quite flawless organizational system. I dont wanna have songs isolated by album or artist or picture on the cover. I like my stuff in my own particular order, Itunes just cant facilitate what i've already grown accustomed to. At least i gave it a try before solidifying my dislike of the whole thing XD

Yes, it can... as far as music is concerned; I hadn't finished looking into photos.

At least i gave it a try before solidifying my dislike of the whole thing XD

You gave the iPod a try, as far as I know you didn't give iTunes a try... which means you didn't really give it a try. :D

Ultimately, it doesn't matter, because you found something that worked for you and that's great! But stop making shit up ;)

dude i downloaded Itunes and attempted to process it for two solid weeks SPECIFICALLY cos i knew i'd be having this [s]argument[/s] discussion with iPod People. If theres any more to iTunes to try it wasnt made clear to me by the shoddy interface nor iPod People i accosted with my grievances X3

Two weeks worth the unsatisfactory experience with Itunes is not making shit up in the last :U

Okay, now I KNOW you're making shit up XD

I offered to talk you through iTunes and setting up your music the way you wanted it. The last I remembered on the subject was that you were having none of it and if you couldn't do it in Winamp then it wasn't worth doing.

No way dude, as i recall, i tried winamp that didnt work, i tried iTunes and you assisted as best you could, we learned this prog couldnt preform the customization tasks i wanted out of a music maker. I still toughed it out for a week and nothing came of it :U

None the less i tried itunes for 2 weeks and all i learned from it was its apples way around DRM issues, but provides no added performance for the thing. PLUS i couldnt put pics on it w/o claiming an entire folder OR me having to make whole new folders just for ipod to have custom pics.

which pretty much rules out a rather big portion of usefulness. hell even my portable DVD player can do that.

Goddamn... is work fucking with me that much?

I honestly have no recollection of you installing iTunes... what's even more confusing is the fact that I totally had a "by folder" type of organization working on my copy installed at the office!
All we needed to do was create playlists for the folders and import them into iTunes... could have had you up and running in 10 mins.

I agree with you on the Itunes thing, I can't stand itunes thinking it can organise my music better than me, plus if I want to quickly give something to a friend or drag and drop I can't o.O

I do use the Itunes shop to buy mp3s because it is good for that, but I have soundtaxi which rips the drm so I can listen to the music on what I want to play it on.

The Fact that you have a prog called SoundTaxi is totally ironic XD

But yeah i dont like a program telling me how i should listen to my music when i've spent YEARS perfecting my own playlists. And i mean i've had some musical arrangements formulating since back when they were on Cassette tapes. Its the difference between cutting a steak yourself or having someone cut it, chew it and regurgitate it for you XD

I get what your saying though. iTunes is a major pain in that you can't do the folders thing, but on the other hand, I love my Random playlist I set up and my iPod Touch plays all my podcast with no issues.

Although, I do miss having a FM radio like I did on my Sansa.

I had an old Torica Oto which is a cheapy from Japan, but the battery section was really crap and broke fairly soon. I have an old behemoth of an Iriver, one of those video, text, radio recording music things, it's too big to be really portable. I have my little Iriver T10 that lasts a week on one AA battery (rechargables) no waiting for it to usb charge. I love my little Iriver I got it a few years ago now and it's still great, robust unbreakable and fast transfer. I got it for its exceptional battery life.

I also have an 8 gig sony video/mp3 walkman,it was given as a present but it gives me the shits, you have to run things through a program to transfer to it. The new walkmans don't have that crap.
